Who We Are Outside the Law...
When we are not hard at work on our clients' cases, our lawyers do get away occassionally to take a vacation! David and his wife went on a recent vacation to San Francisco and Monterey, California and had a wonderful time. While in sunny California, they saw the Golden Gate Bridge, a SF Giants baseball game, Alcatraz, and the beautiful coast along Highway 1.
At Cook & Gore, we hope you, too, enjoy your summer vacations and that you stay safe.

Spotlight on Probate...
Did you know that Cook & Gore helps all types of families with Probating their Loved Ones' Estates--even if they don't have a Will? Below are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions we receive about this area:
My Loved One just died--do I really need to probate his/her estate?
A: Yes. It is extremely important that you probate the estate so that you can legally transfer title to all of the assests he/she owned. Many types of property--including homes--cannot be transferred without a court order from a probate judge.
What is involved in the process of probating an estate?
A: First, your attorney will help you file an Application to Probate the Will (or, if there is no Will, an Application to Probate the Estate). This Application will list a proposed Executor/Administrator who will be responsible for wrapping up the affairs of the deceased person, paying creditors, and then transferring all of the property to the beneficiaries. The court will have a hearing to name the Executor, and after that, the Executor will work with their attorney to notify creditors, pay any claims, and then legally distribute all of the property to the beneficiaries. Completing this entire process typically takes an average of 6-9 months.
How much will this probate procedure cost?
A: Costs vary depending on the unique facts of the case, but the total cost for uncontested cases is typically around $1,750-$2,500.
